When we think about what we want students to know, understand, and be able to do in order to be college and career ready, we inherently agree that attributes, as defined by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills are paramount to ensuring our students are prepared to compete and succeed. Understanding how the Common Core State Standards and North Carolina Essential Standards provide students with these skills is important for not only NC educators but also for all NC parents.
Newton-Conover City Schools has developed a one-page handout for parents and community stakeholders to clarify misconceptions about the standards. Likewise NCDPI has created a set of resources for both educators and community stakeholders to explain the standards and their implications on student learning.
