Military Ball 2014

Military Ball 2014Saturday, March 22 at 6:00pm began the roll call for the 2014 Newton-Conover High School Navy Junior ROTC Military Ball held at the Old St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Newton.  There were approximately 100 cadets and their dates in attendance along with about 20 adults.

The purpose of the Military Ball is to provide a formal celebration of the accomplishments and camaraderie the unit has experienced over the present year.  Male Cadets are required to wear their uniform, while female cadets may dress in formal attire.  According to Commander Mentzer, “The thing that I like about military ball is that it is all inclusive in that cadets from very different backgrounds share one common goal and, for one evening, show the sense of team and pride.”

The event was put on completely by the cadets with assistance from parents.  Notably C/LTJG Dallas Rice led the military ball committee and her Grandparents Susan and Randy Leonard, along with her Aunt Cari Hughes.  Brandon and Misty Helms provided the archway that is shown in the picture.  In the picture is the sword arch and coming through the sword arch is C/LCDR Phillip Wagner and his date Amber.  Special props go out to Mr. and Mrs. Laney who donated their time and services to provide the entertainment.

The NJROTC unit at NCHS consists of 105 cadets and commits over 2000 hours of community service each year.  End of Year awards and Change of Command will be held at Old St. Paul’s on 23 May.
