The annual Science Olympiad competition for our region was held on Saturday, March 22 at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC). Newton-Conover entered three teams this year from Newton-Conover High School (NCHS), Discovery High School (DHS) and Newton-Conover Middle School (NCMS). All three schools did well in the competition making us all proud of their accomplishments.
Of particular highlight is that DHS placed third overall in the regional competition with 6 Gold medals, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze. The Discovery Team placed 3rd out of the 19 teams competing at the Hickory Regional Tournament held at CVCC on March 22. DHS was well represented in the awards presentations, with top-three medals in eleven out of the 23 events. By placing third, the DHS team earned an invitation to compete in the State Tournament at NC State University on April 25-26.
