N-CCS teachers were welcomed back to the 2014-2015 school year with laughter, inspiration, tears, and truths, as over 400 staff members gathered in the N-CMS Auditorium on Friday, August 22nd for an uplifting kick-off. Staff members from our 7 schools and district office were greeted by the spirited tunes of the N-CHS band, led by Haskew Smith, and led in the Pledge of Allegiance by the N-CHS NJROTC, led by HM1 Scott.
Staff members enjoyed watching compilation videos of summer memories made by the N-CCS family, as well as accomplishments from the 2013-2014 school year. They cheered each other on as they saw their family members and school memories flash across the screen! Staff members also showed their true colors, talents, and school spirit during the “Best of N-CCS Spirit Pageant”, in which each school competed in three categories: “Best in Threads” (school t-shirts), “Best in Show” (talent), and “Best in Gab” (interview question.) Conover School won the contest for “Best in Gab”, Shuford Elementary School won the contest for the “Best in Show” and N-CMS brought home the titles of “Best in Threads” and “Best in N-CCS”! The audience of supportive staff members laughed, cheered, and danced throughout the intense competition!
Dr. Gabriel and Ms. Mullins acknowledged all of the hard working staff members who had succeeded and/or been a part of great initiatives this past year. Teachers were also encouraged by the inspiring words of successful lawyer and N-CCS Alumni, Chaz Beasley, as well as our Superintendent, Dr. Stegall. The theme for this year is “Unbuntu: I am Because We Are!” N-CCS staff firmly believe that each of us is successful, because we are all in this together! Staff members walked away with a car magnet, showcasing the message “I am Newton-Conover”, and it was clear to all involved that when it comes to the 2014-2015 school year, the best is yet to be!
