There were many people and news-worthy events to celebrate at the September 15, 2014 Newton-Conover City Schools Board of Education Meeting. Several proud and happy faces filled the board room as community and staff members came to support the initiatives of N-CCS.
The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by two impressive Conover Students, Jecenia Nazario and Josh Metz.
On behalf of Principal Julia Styers, our Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Aron Gabriel, extended a special thank you to Christ Alive Church for their willingness to meet immediate needs by providing food, school supplies, and financial resources to the staff and students of South Newton Elementary.
Shuford Elementary Principal, Mr. Patrick Nelson, shared sincere accolades pertaining to two outstanding teachers at Shuford Elementary School. He publicly acknowledged the leadership and care that both Theresa Roth and Laura Jo Hopson pour into their school and classrooms each day.
Our Superintendent, Dr. David Stegall, shared a heart-warming message about the graciousness and faithful service of all of the community members who worked together to make the N-CCS Back to School Bash our most successful one to date! Representatives from The Cove Church, Vertical Church, and Gospel Life Church, as well as School Counselor Tammy Hayman and Principal Kevin Campbell, were acknowledged for their vision, time, efforts, and donations to such a meaningful cause!
Dr. David Stegall congratulated the N-CCS Curriculum Team, Heather Mullins, Tammy Brown, Bill Long, Cindy Geddes, and Dr. Betsy Rosenbalm, for their collaborative efforts in creating and sustaining Newton-Conover’s on-line newsletter for educators, “The Compass”. The Compass recently won the National School Public Relations Association Award of Excellence.
Dr. David Stegall saluted the N-CCS Finance Team, Carmen Houston, Gina Vickers, Brenda Schreiber, and Keista Bass, for their excellence in fiscal management, resulting in them recently receiving three state financial awards: the Government Finance Officer’s Association Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the Association of School Business Officials Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting, and the State Board of Education Recognition of Achievement for Financial Resource Management.
Dr. David Stegall congratulated a talented South Newton Elementary School student, Sierra Sharp, for winning the Greater Hickory Kia Rock Barn Ticket Design Contest! Sierra was saluted for her creativity and artistic skills!
It was a great night to be a part of the Newton-Conover City School System. WE are Newton-Conover!
