Through this process students learn the step by step skills needed to find quality information that fits what they are looking for. The Big Six website (http://big6.com/) has information on how to implement the process, as well as free handouts and research on the program.
The Big 6 process can be used with upper elementary grades as well as middle and high school. Dr. Emily S. Harris, a middle school teacher in South Carolina, conducted action research on teaching 6th graders the process. Her article lists the sequence of lessons as well as student results and conclusions. http://big6.com/pages/about/research/the-big6-works.php.
