Discovery High Hosts Memorial Run in Honor of Maggie Daniels

discoveryNEWTON – Discovery High School will host Run for Maggie, a 5K memorial run and walk honoring Maggie Daniels and benefiting the memorial scholarship fund that bears her name.    The event will take place Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 9:00 am in front of Gurley Stadium at Newton-Conover High School.

The cost for the run is $25 per person and includes a logo-free t-shirt honoring Daniels, who was a beloved guidance counselor at Discovery High School and a former teacher and coach at Newton-Conover High School.  Maggie was also an avid runner who could often be seen running in the Newton area.

Registrations are being accepted now through November 1.  There is no same-day registration.  Participants may download a registration form through the DHS website, accessed through www.nccs.k12.nc.us.  Forms are also available at Discovery High School, Newton-Conover High School, Fleet Feet, Shuford YMCA in Conover, the Hickory Foundation YMCA, the Newton Recreation Department and other area high schools.

Trophies or plaques will be awarded to the top overall female and male finishers, the top female and male finishers for Discovery High School and Newton-Conover High School, and top female and male finishers in the following age brackets:  12 and under; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60+.

Big Kahuna Timing is honoring Maggie by donating timing services for the event.
