Fighting Childhood Obesity with Technology

pe 2In the last 30 years, childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents. In order to respond to the growing population of obese youth, companies are coming up with computer programs, interactive apps, and even health trackers. One such tool is Adventure to fitness.

Each episode is 30 minutes in length, and presents curriculum-aligned lessons in math, science, social studies, language arts, health, and nutrition, while keeping kids moving at a moderate-to-vigorous pace for the full half hour (recommended for growing bodies and minds!). Kids feel like they’re part of the action in the fun video game format, and it’s their job to help defeat the villain Mr. Laze. Explore Colonial times or ancient Mayan civilization…every episode is a new adventure in a different, exciting setting!

Adventure to fitness is available for free by registering at their website. Any teacher can use the videos on days when the weather prevents recess time. Or on days when physical education classes are not scheduled.
