How do you engage 6th grade students in science classes and concepts? At Newton-Conover Middle School, Mrs. Cannon and Mrs. Waibel know that this happens by grating, melting and molding chocolate, breaking apart Oreos, and exploding volcanoes! This week, 6th Grade students learned the rock cycle in these classrooms, by participating in a chocolate lab–what a delicious concept! They learned about the movement of tectonic plates using Oreos, and a volcano exploded to the delight of all present!
Students in Ms. Jones’ class also learned about conduction, convection, and radiation heat sources by cooking up some delicious popcorn using these three different heating/cooking processes! These ladies know how to make science fun, accessible, and tasty for all of their students!
