Teachers are taking 21st century learning to the next level at Shuford Elementary School. Each month the school has a weekly agenda which has a focus on lessons using the 4Cs’s of learning, for example: week 1’s focus is Communication, week 2 Collaboration, week 3 Critical Thinking, and week 4 Creativity. Teacher led activities produce student work within the realm, which is then published to bulletin boards posted in various locations around the school. The 21st century learning skill set contains the 4C’s; which are Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. The 4C’s of learning are in place to help students thrive in today’s world.
Principal at Shuford Elementary, Patrick Nelson, believes “the 21st century is increasingly complex, competitive, and demanding. Our students must learn more than what they are tested on during end of grade testing. To go above and beyond we must incorporate the 4C’s of learning into our student’s day-to-day lives, inside the classroom.” The school’s goal of implementing this additional learning practice is to place students leaving Shuford at an educational advantage they may not get elsewhere, as well as, allowing them to flourish in the 21st century.
Shuford Elementary School is located in Conover, North Carolina and proudly led by Principal, Mr. Patrick Nelson. The school serves over 500 students in the Newton-Conover City School’s district.
