N-CCS February 2015 Board of Education Meeting

February BOE 002February BOE 004February BOE 006February BOE 008The February 2015 N-CCS Board of Education Meeting began with special celebrations pertaining to the many positive things happening in Newton-Conover City Schools.  The February 23rd meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Newton-Conover High School student leaders, Aron Hamm, Zoe Nester, Logan Thompson, Abby Cox, Lauren Dillard, Austen Gilbert, and Aly Adams. For a Staff Spotlight, Conover School Principal Phyllis Pegram recognized two of her dedicated, hard working Teacher Assistants, Jenn Benedikter and Kim Beal, for their tireless efforts as bus drivers, monitors, and instructional leaders.  For a Community Spotlight, North Newton Elementary School Principal Shane Whitener acknowledged the love, commitment, and resourcefulness of two local community supporters, Amanda Freeland and Jennifer Hefner. He shared with the group his gratitude for their work with the Back Pack program at North Newton. Lastly, N-CCS Chief Academic Officer Heather Mullins saluted the Newton-Conover Middle School STEM Implementation Team (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) for their work as a visionary group in setting the tone for this new initiative and framework at N-CMS. Principal Kim Kaylor, Assistant Principal Jessica Luby, and teachers such as Kelly Cannon, Amanda Crouch, Ashley Flowers, Marty Isenhour, Nate Shafer, Gary Towery, and Scottie White were recognized for their attendance at a group STEM planning retreat at NCCAT (NC Center for the Advancement of Teaching). The group was able to share their STEM experiences and goals with the BOE, as well, following their recognition. The evening served as a wonderful reminder of why we are proud to say, “We are Newton-Conover!”
