Some excited fifth graders at South Newton Elementary are busy creating videos of the new school facility as well as videos of the faculty, staff, and students in order to showcase the best of South Newton to on-campus visitors. All videos and webpages created by the students are being connected to QR codes. The QR codes will be printed, framed, and placed strategically around the campus. Visitors to the campus may then use a QR scan app on their smartphones to retrieve video and receive a self-guided tour. Also, iPod touch devices* will be available for check-out from the main office for guests so they can capture the QR codes and retrieve the informational videos.
In the videos, students are highlighting the “green” aspects of the new LEED-certified school facility that were a part of the construction as well as the operational processes. Students are also highlighting leadership in action by creating videos of Leader in Me school activities and class-created mission statements and posters. Since August 2014, the Leader in Me program (based on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) has become the main operating system for every facet of life for both students and staff at South Newton.
