N-CHS Offers Opportunities for Musicians of All Ages!

EOM and NCHS leaders 055N-CHS chorus teacher, Elizabeth Fowler, finds great pleasure in instructing her choral and piano classes in her state-of-the art piano lab at N-CHS. Installed in 2013, the 20 Roland pianos that fill the Red Devil’s chorus room compose the largest piano lab in North Carolina–even larger than university music department labs across the state. Students who elect to take piano classes can take four years of piano classes with Mrs. Fowler, ranging from beginner to advanced courses. With these electronic pianos, students can also utilize a conferencing system to play in pairs and quartets. The possibilities are endless with the accessibility students have to such musical technology, as well as the free daily lessons under such a skilled piano instructor.

Students who want to take chorus at N-CHS can take Chorus 1 or try-out to be in an auditioned ensemble, such as her Chamber Choir. Recently, students in Mrs. Fowler’s choral classes participated in a Disney Teaching Artist Show Choir workshop at Disney World where they learned the choreography for two new songs.  Students received new rehearsal techniques, as well as coaching in choreography, high energy performances, and vocal styles.  The workshop culminated in a performance with a special guest – Minnie Mouse!  These auditioned choral groups work with a choreographer each semester on a show-choir style piece.  They are currently working on “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” for their May 28 concert at Mt. Zion Lutheran in Conover.

For students who would like an opportunity to play the piano this summer, Mrs. Fowler’s Tri-M Music Honor’s Society is hosting a piano camp June 22-25, 2015. The camp is open to upper elementary and middle school students, as well as rising 6th grade band students. The camp will last from 9am to 12 noon and is free to participants. Lunch and transportation will not be provided. For more information on how your children can participate in this Piano Camp, contact Mrs. Fowler at 828-465-0920.
