Author Joyce Hostetter Visits Newton-Conover City Schools

IMG_3604Lenoir-Rhyne University makes connections with the community with a special event each year called “The Little Read”.  This year the author featured was Joyce Hostetter.  All fifth grade students in our system received a copy of Blue, written by Joyce Hostetter.  Blue tells a story of a young girl facing the polio epidemic that plagued Hickory in 1944.  Each of the students in fifth grade participated in art and literature contests.  The fifth grade teachers worked extremely hard to make sure that the students understood the background in history that was occurring during that time.
