The 2015 North Carolina Special Olympics Track and Field Games took place on Friday, April 24th at the Gurley Stadium on the campus of Newton-Conover High School. Students from Newton-Conover City Schools, Hickory Public Schools, Catawba County Schools, and local group homes came out to compete in competitive games and activities. The special message for the day was delivered by the N-CCS Superintendent, Dr. David Stegall, the torch was run in by Mr. Draper’s Newton-Conover Middle School students, and a lovely National Anthem was performed by Conover TA, Cheryl McCombs. Conover staff members and Dawn Taylor took the lead on organizing the games and activities, but special thanks to Rosemary Baughman, Conover TA, for her annual leadership in this event. The Special Olympics Atheletes’ Creed is, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Everyone was a winner at this event, as they celebrated their unique gifts and talents and gave it their all!
