On Thursday, May 21st at 1:30pm, N-CCS staff members, students, leaders, Board of Education members, and community supporters gathered at Shuford Elementary to dedicate the school’s track to retired PE teacher, Mr. Tim H. Elrod, II.
Superintendent Dr. David Stegall and Principal Patrick Nelson acknowledged the crowd and set the stage to honor Mr. Elrod, as he was escorted in by his wife, retired N-CCS Central Office Director Melanie Elrod, and family to the surprise event on the back lawn of Shuford Elementary. Conover Mayor, Mr. Lee Moritz, and Mayor Pro Temp, Mr. Kyle Hayman, presented Mr. Elrod with a City of Conover Seal and the declaration that May 21, 2015 would be known as Tim Elrod Day in the City of Conover.
The event ended with Mr. Elrod sharing a few special thoughts on how blessed he felt to be able to work in such a special school with such wonderful students. Instructional Coach and interim Principal, Mrs. Amber Humphrey, revealed the special track dedication sign at the conclusion of the ceremony, and Mr. Elrod enjoyed cutting the ribbon for the sign, visiting with previous Shuford students, and sharing delicious refreshments at a reception held in his honor in the media center, following the ceremony.
Mr. Elrod worked at Shuford for 31 years and was dedicated to making sure all of his students got the best physical education possible. During his last years at Shuford, he was the driving force behind completing a track in Shuford’s back yard. He was also known in the district as a Teacher of the Year, and at the state and national level for his dedication and contributions to physical education programs for children.
The purpose of this dedication service was to acknowledge the time and effort Mr. Elrod put in to supporting and encouraging Shuford’s students. His legacy and impact will continue to live on in the lives of many.
