Sutherland Named Catawba County Middle School Female Coach of the Year

fallonFallon Sutherland, NCMS softball and volleyball coach was recently named the Catawba County Middle School Female Coach of the Year.  Coach Sutherland teaches physical education at NCMS and has also coached volleyball at NCHS.  Coach Sutherland’s favorite quote is, “Winners never quit, and quitters never win.”

When we asked Coach Sutherland why she coaches and why coaching is important to her, here is what she said:

“I coach because I have a chance to have a huge impact on a kids’ lives.  I can teach them life through a game. Coaching softball is a love and a passion. Coaching allows me to reflect on myself as a person and to strive to become better. The feeling you get when you can motivate an athlete to become better and they do right in front of your eyes is very rewarding. The relationships you develop with some kids will be something you nor the kids will never forget.
Sports gave me so much growing up as a athlete/kid I want to give something back to the sport/s that have meant me so much to me. The range of emotions you go through in one season makes it stressful at times, but in that stress is when you really win because all those emotions are used as motivation. I want to be a role model and a leader for my kids to give them someone to look up to. Then, when you are able to see the success of a program rise up, its a feeling you cannot describe. “
Congratulations, Coach Sutherland!
