Pinwheels for Peace at Shuford Elementary

20150923_131651International Peace Day was recognized in 1981 and first celebrated on September 21st of that year. As a way to come together collectively to celebrate this day, the Pinwheels for Peace Project started in 2005.  During the first year approximately 500,000 pinwheels were made by school children and other groups throughout the nation and world. By 2014, the number of pinwheels made had grown to 4 million!  Shuford has participated in the Pinwheels for Peace Project for the past few years. Each student was given a pinwheel to design and then these were displayed in front of the school for 4 days. Older students not only colored the pinwheels, but also wrote
about their desire to see and experience world peace in the future.
