On Saturday, December 5th, Conover School held their 25th annual Biker’s Toy Run at Newton-Conover High School. You could hear the roar of motorcycles long before 600 bikers began pulling into the school parking lot. Staff, students, and parents greeted them with cheers as they rolled in to show support for Conover School. Mr. Mike Dyson of the Wizard Lounge in Hickory, began this tradition of making sure that all Conover School students had the opportunity to see Santa and receive a Christmas gift. The toy run started out at Conover School, but through the years has become so large they had to move the event to a larger facility. The bikers do fundraisers all year such as car washes and yard sales to raise money for this event. They also provide a monetary donation to the school each year. The Conover School students and staff presented a Christmas program to the bikers to show their appreciation for their hard work raising funds for their school. This year the biker’s surprised Conover School by performing a song they had written about the toy run. It was definitely a day to put you in the Christmas spirit and make you realize Christmas is about giving to others.
