On Friday, December 18th the preschool students and staff at Thornton Educational Center welcomed families, community members, high school students and Newton-Conover Schools staff to a gingerbread house making event. Each of the 54 NCPreK children enrolled at
Thornton Educational Center were paired with parents, high school students, and adults to assist in the construction of their own gingerbread house. Students and their helpers worked diligently to spread icing over graham crackers to build the houses so they could be decorated with lots of candy. When the children were finished, each house was carefully wrapped so each child could take theirs home.
This event housed plenty of smiles, laughter, sugary kids and fun times by all. It was wonderful to have families of the children and teachers, People’s Bank Corporate, Newton Police Department, Discovery High School students and Newton-Conover school board and staff involved. The preschool staff at Thornton Educational Center plans to make this an annual tradition and is looking forward to next year’s event!
