Newton-Conover City Schools is blessed to have strong support from the Catawba County Commissioners. As such, there are a number of projects that are either underway or upcoming in our school system.
- Newton-Conover High School Gurley Stadium: The Newton-Conover High School Red Devils have called Gurley Stadium home since the 1960’s and the home fans have sat in the same seats until January 2016. The seating has been durable and effective. But for the purposes of safety and to comply with ADA requirements, the home side seating arrangements are being replaced, additional handicap accessible features are being installed, new restroom facilities and concession areas are being installed, additional storage space developed, among other features.
- Conover School Addition: Conover School serves a unique population of students from all three Catawba County School Systems (Catawba, Hickory, Newton-Conover). The need for additional storage, a larger and more functional cafeteria/kitchen, and space to hold assemblies has arisen over the years. A multi-purpose facility is slated to be constructed beginning this summer that will serve the functions of cafeteria/kitchen, gymnasium, and stage/auditorium area. Additional parking and access to the campus will also be part of the project. The current gymnasium that is in need of repairs will be demolished.
- North Newton Elementary School: The roof at North Newton Elementary School will be replaced this summer.
Newton-Conover City Schools is very appreciative of the ongoing support our Catawba County Commissioners have provided for our students and we are excited about the upcoming improvements to our campuses.
