South Newton Tigers Celebrate the Soup-er Bowl!

ab ab2South Newton Elementary celebrated an awesome Soup-er Bowl week cheering on the Carolina Panthers and doing a good deed for their community. Each day of the February 1st week, students and staff had a dress-up theme such as all-black day for “blacking out the Broncos” and cool cats’ day for wearing one’s favorite Panther’s jersey or shirt. In addition to the Panther Nation dress attire, classes at every grade level competed in a canned soup/foods drive to support our community through the food pantry at ECCCM. In all, students brought in 2,454 cans in just five days! Amazing! Mr. Randy Abernethy’s fifth graders won the week’s competition and took the first place award by bringing in 314 cans. Their prize was oh so sweet…Krispy Kreme Carolina Panthers’ football doughnuts. In second place was Mrs. Brittany Gaines’ fourth graders bringing in 308 cans, and in third place was Mrs. Shelly Hayes’ third graders collecting 268 cans. Way to go, South Newton Tiger Leaders! South Newton would also like to wish those other cool CATS good luck on Sunday!
