On a cold Saturday in Feburary (25 degrees when we started!) twelve members of the Beta Club from Discovery High School worked on Habitat For Humanity homes in Hickory. The students shoveled gravel, shoveled dirt, painted the inside of a house, moved shingles, and helped out wherever needed. Jenna Cucco from Habitat explained the history of Habitat to all the volunteers as well as the plan for several new homes in Catawba County. She added that the success of the program depends mostly on the volunteers who put in countless hours not only in our area but across the country. The Beta Club students from Discovery High School said they would like to return later in the spring to help out on another day since they found the work fulfilling and gratifying.
