On Thursday, March 3, South Newton celebrated literacy and Read Across America week with a family reading night. The theme was retro 60’s with a lot of peace signs and tie-dye adorning teachers, students, and hallways. Students with their parents and siblings enjoyed events such as the Readers’ Theater, 7 Habits Read Aloud, Letterland activities and games, computerized reading games, tie-dye hair painting, funky photo booth, recipe reading and pyschedelic snack making, and of course, Scholastic Book Fair purchasing! Catawba County Public Library was on hand as well to issue library cards to students and families and to share activities and resources that promote reading. All activities were outta sight, and everyone agreed it was a groovy night!
