South Newton Wins Battle of the Books

Congratulations to the South Newton Battle of the Books’ team and their coaches on winning the Newton-Conover City Schools’ district competition! The team members from all three of Newton-Conover’s elementary schools worked very hard to read 18 books and to remember intricate details from the stories in order to compete in the intense competition.

This makes the second year running that the South Newton Elementary Tigers have emerged as the victors of the competition. Principal Amber Humphrey shared a bit more details on the structure of the team:

“South Newton’s BOB team is made up of 7 5th grade students and coached by Julie Bowman, Heather Reynolds and Suzanne Cadwallader.  The team meets 1-2 times each week after school and attended two mock competitions at local schools. We will be attending the Regional BOB competition in April,” said Principal Humphrey.

The South Newton team will represent NCCS in the regional competition in April. Congratulations and good luck in the next round, South Newton!
