The smiles couldn’t have been brighter and the cheers louder, than on Friday, April 29th! Maiden High School hosted the annual Special Olympics games in their football stadium for Catawba County. Athletes were represented from Newton-Conover, Hickory Public, and Catawba County Schools. Community agencies and organizations were also in attendance. The athletes enjoyed friendly competition, recognition, face painting, lunch, and time to relax and socialize with friends under tents that provided relief from the warm sunshine.
All athletes did an outstanding job as they competed in a number of events throughout the morning. Athletes were paired with ‘buddies’ who assisted them throughout the day and enjoyed many laughs and smiles. If you see an Olympian, make sure you congratulate them on their success!
