The General Assembly approved the 2016 Appropriations Act in July 2016 which provides a one-time lump sum compensation bonus for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. This one-time compensation bonus is to be paid with the October 2016 payroll. Per DPI, state employees employed in a state funded position on September 1, 2016 shall be awarded this compensation bonus in the amount of one-half percent (.5%). This compensation bonus will be based on annual salaries in effect on September 1, 2016. Teachers and instructional support are not eligible to receive this compensation bonus. This compensation bonus is not subject to retirement, but is subject to social security and income tax.
Although the General Assembly is only funding the compensation bonus for state funded employees, the NCCS Board of Education has set aside enough local funds in 2016-2017 to ensure that locally funded employees also receive the compensation bonus. This ensures that all eligible NCCS classified staff will receive the .5% compensation bonus.
