On Thursday, October 13, the Conover School gym was buzzing with excitement as they held their annual fall festival. Parents and students were treated to a barbeque dinner, popcorn, and homemade doughnuts. The games students enjoyed were pumpkin toss, building a scarecrow, face painting, bobbing for pumpkins, apple fishing, scarecrow toss, leaf toss and a cake walk. One of the reasons for the fall festival is to introduce parents to some of the services available in the community. As students turn 14 years old, we begin to talk with the parents about guardianship and options for their child after they graduate from Conover School. We had representatives from Partners, Umar (a day program), Bayada Pediatrics, and Rising Hope (horse therapy), as well as Adult Life which is also a day program. Parents had the opportunity to talk with these vendors and learn what options are available. It was a fun evening of food, games and parent information.
