Administrator Spotlight: Shane Whitener

In honor of Principals’ Appreciation Month, Newton-Conover City Schools will be spotlighting its incredible Principals from now through the end of October.  Today’s feature is on Mr. Shane Whitener, Principal of North Newton Elementary School!

Mr. Whitener received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Appalachian State University. He has been in the Newton-Conover School District for 18 years at all levels. He started his career at Newton-Conover High School as a math teacher as well as a basketball and track coach. After 7 years at the high school, He went to Newton-Conover Middle School where he spent the next 5 years as the assistant principal. He then spent a little under a year at Shuford Elementary School as the principal before becoming ill and moving to the central office as the Math Curriculum Specialist. Mr. Whitener was in this position a little over a year before coming to North Newton. He has two beautiful kids, Gabriella and Quincy, who are 4th graders at Shuford.

About Leah Bobbett

Leah attends Lenoir-Rhyne University as a senior. At Lenoir-Rhyne she has taken coursework in public relations, broadcast, journalism, and public speaking. She has also taken classes on argumentation, advocacy, and rhetoric. During summers previous she has worked with a number of organizations, to assist in their public relations departments, their social media departments, and planning events for them. On campus, she is currently the social media director for the SARA Club. Leah wrote for the Lenoir-Rhyne student newspaper, the LRN Monthly, for two semesters. Leah is also part of Lambda Pi Eta, the communications honor society for college students.
