CommonLit is a free website teachers can use to pull poems, short stories, and informational text. Students create an account using the classroom code. The text can be read aloud to students if they wish. At the end of each selection there are questions aligned with Common Core ELA standards and open-ended discussion questions. This tech tool could easily be implemented into a variety of subject areas, as there are many texts about social studies and science.
To keep track of student progress, CommonLit offers teachers data of individual students as well as the whole class. I personally use CommonLit during my station rotations (technology station) and discuss the text at a later time with students. See below for a tutorial video of CommonLit:
